Shane D. Johnson

    Shane D. Johnson is Professor and Director of the Dawes Centre for Future Crime at the Jill Dando Institute of Crime Science, University College London. He has a particular interest in the spatial and temporal distribution of crime, crime forecasting, design against crime, how other disciplines can inform understanding of crime and security issues, and the extent to which theories developed to explain everyday crimes can explain more extreme events such as riots, maritime piracy and insurgency. He is currently particularly interested in how technological change informs new opportunities for offending or approaches to crime prevention. Johnson has conducted work for a variety of sponsors including the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the Home Office, and currently coordinates an international research network funded by the British Academy. He has published more than 120 book chapters and research papers within the fields of criminology and forensic psychology. Johnson holds a bachelor of sciences, master of arts, and doctorate in psychology from the University of Liverpool.
