kamcdonald: Sp cq clients johns

1. What is known about the clients (e.g., age, race, occupation, socio-economic status, marital status, criminal history, residence)?

Most of them have been convicted for being caught with or abusing prostitutes. They tend to be afraid of catching a disease, being seen and known by friends and family.

2. How committed are clients to prostitution?

They seem to go a couple of times a month to find a prostitute.

3. What groups are particularly concerned and why? What specific concerns are expressed?

Main concerns are being caught by the police, being seen by friends, family, coworkers, and catching a disease.

4. How committed are they to soliciting prostitutes on the street or in a particular area?

Many of them go on the main strip or 'safe areas' to look for prostitutes. Some of them also tend to look for their 'regulars' or prostitutes they are familiar with so they know they are safe.

kamcdonald: Sp cq current response

1. What is the police department's current policy in dealing with street prostitution?

Keep the signs of prostitution as minimal as possible. There have been officers arresting prostitutes, but that does little to deal with the problem.

2. What is the prosecutor's current policy regarding prostitution-related offenses?

A lot of the charges against prostitutes seem to get dropped or reduced from officer interviews. This allows the prostitutes to get back on the street and nothing changes.

3. What are the typical sentences handed out to those who are convicted?

I was unable to find any reports that stated how long sentences were, but from the information I gathered, it sounded like a lot of the prostitutes were not receiving sentences but were given slaps on the wrist.

4. Do the prostitutes and clients complete those sentences?

No, the charges sounded like they were usually dropped as officers stated arresting the same girls many times over.

5. What effect, if any, does the imposition of a sentence have on subsequent involvement in prostitution?

Seems to do little to nothing. One veteran of the police department noted that officers would arrest the same prostitute many times and would still seem them out on the street.

6. What responses do police officers use, other than arrest and prosecution?

Seems like they tend to just make the prostitutes move on from the area they are currently in.

7. Are any of these responses especially effective?

No, none of the current responses have been effective in dealing with the prostitutes. Many residents and business owners have noted that the issue has gotten worse over the years.

8. What social, health and substance abuse treatment services are available to assist prostitutes?

There is rehabilitation, shelters, and job training available for the prostitutes, however it seems like they are not widely know about as said by a rehabilitated past prostitute..

9. Are prostitutes using available services?

No, many of them are not even aware such services are available to them.

kamcdonald: Sp cq drugs

1. To what extent are street prostitutes, clients and pimps engaged in the sale or use of drugs?

It seems like a large majority is involved with drugs. it should be noted that not everyone is involved with the use of drugs; there are mentions of younger girls in the upper strip being more popular because they do not use drugs and some clients seem to avoid hooking up with women that are involved with drugs.

2. Are street prostitution and street drug markets near each other?

Yes, there is mention of prostitutes hanging around drug houses to get more clients. However, not all prostitutes hang around drug houses or markets.

3. Do street prostitutes exchange sex directly for drugs?

Yes, some of the johns do give drugs to them in exchange for sex.
