1. Does street prostitution take place in more than one area?

Street prostitution DOES take place in more than area.

2. What conditions make the area(s) attractive for street prostitution?

The conditions that make these areas attractive for street prostitution can be the number of secluded/abandoned building nearby to complete sexual transactions. Another condition can be the amount of drugs that are circulating through the neighborhoods and the easy access that is given to the prostitutes for these drugs. Another condition is the amount of clients who are willing to pay for these said sexual transactions.

3. If street prostitution occurs in several areas, how are they similar and different?

In ways they are similar is the sense of the area being near hotels, bars, or nightclubs. As well as being around drugs or where drug dealers conduct their business.

In ways they are difference can be in terms of how heavy the flow of clients are in that area. Some areas may have less clients going through that area. Another difference would be the wealth of the area in the sense of how much prostitutes are charging clients for sexual transactions.

4. What area businesses are harmed by the presence of street prostitution?

The area businesses that are harmed by the presence of street prostitution are businesses like furniture stores, malls, dry cleaners, ect. They claim to have fear of opening their businesses due to the fact these girls come into their businesses using their bathrooms or asking for telephones. Other crimes were reported such as theft or break-ins at the mall or finding unused condoms by their docs.

5. What area businesses support and/or benefit from street prostitution?

Some of the area businesses support and/or benefit from the street prostitution are more so night clubs, bars, and liquor stores. The owners seem to be oblivious or turn a blind eye to the fact that prostitutes come into their clubs and bars every night, but the owners just see them as regular customers who come in.

6. Is the street prostitution market in each area old or new? Has it changed in size recently? If so, why?

I would say it depends on the area and how fairly new that area is to a community. I think it has changed in size recently because many more women turn to prostitution as a source of quick and easy access to money or to drugs as well.

7. Do street prostitution areas have a reputation as being dangerous or safe for clients?

Street prostitution areas I would say have a reputation for being safe for clients, it's more so whether or not the clients are safe for the prostitutes.

Street prostitution is typically accompanied by other crimes as well such as drug trades. Typically prostitutes are looking for easy access to drugs or looking for sexual trades for these drugs from drug dealers.

Other types of crimes that occur in these areas are car break-ins, theft, property damage. It is unclear whether or not it is related to street prostitution.

10. If street prostitution were forced out of a target area, where would you predict it might reappear?

If it were forced out of a target area I would predict it would reappear in another area where there are drug dealers, near rundown hotels that may not receive as much business. Perhaps in another area where there are more secluded areas where there is less police patrol as well.

There are three clients who have been arrested for two for patronizing with the prostitutes.

2. How committed are clients to prostitution?

They are very committed because they know when and where to go to pick up someone.

3. What groups are particularly concerned and why? What specific concerns are expressed?

I'm sure everyone is concerned because it affects there job/business and they don't want to lose there customers since the area is filled with prostitutes. The specific concerns are the health of everyone and the liquor being sold to underage people.

4. How committed are they to soliciting prostitutes on the street or in a particular area?

They are very committed from keeping prostitutes out from soliciting the area because all the business owners are being affected since people don't want to be around. If something happens to them it causes it big scene and it lowers the value of the place and the business lose everything.

aasanto6: Sp cq sexual transactions

1. How, specifically, do street prostitutes and clients negotiate and complete sexual transactions?

Typically street prostitutes and clients will negotiate from the clients vehicle and then travel to a secluded/abandoned area to complete the transaction. They typically do in these secluded dark areas where no one can see them or possibly get caught by the police.

2. Do clients solicit prostitutes on foot or from a vehicle?

Clients will typically solicit prostitutes from a vehicle so they are not recognized by others in the area.

3. Where do the sexual transactions take place?

Sexual transactions will typically take place in secluded/abandoned buildings where there are lower chances of them getting caught by the police and for clients getting caught by someone they may know from the area.

4. Do prostitutes and clients take precautions to prevent sexually-transmitted disease?

I would say that clients take more precaution when trying to prevent sexually-transmitted diseases. Clients will only go to prostitutes who they know are considered to be "safe" or clean when doing sexual transactions. However, I don't think prostitutes take the necessary precautions to try to prevent themselves from catching a sexually-transmitted disease as long they get paid.

aasanto6: Sp cq police community members

1. How concerned is the police department about street prostitution?

I would say the police are not nearly concerned about street prostitution. They feel as though there is not enough of them to stop the problem so they just threaten the girls to stay away from certain areas, forcing them to stay inside or they will be arrested. Some officers are more concerned than others willing to provide them with resources to seek help. While others just threaten to arrest them if they don't leave to area.

2. How concerned is the community?

According to community leaders, they are highly considered about the problem. They are concerned due to the fact they are losing property values due to street prostitution and losing business as well. However, most of the community leaders are willing to provide resources to help these prostitutes to get help.

3. What groups are particularly concerned and why? What specific concerns are expressed?

The groups that are particularly concerned are the president and alderperson. They were specifically concerned with the idea of property values going down and not being to get new residents to move into the neighborhood. Another concern was being able to sell old leases to new business owners who were possibly going to join the community.

4. How organized and active are community members who oppose street prostitution?

The community members who oppose street prostitution are extremely active in trying to provide resources to these women in need. The pastor has opened many programs at his church to provide as much help as possible with the limited resources that are available to him . These resources include rehabilitation programs and women's shelter. Another community member is who is also active is the captain of the neighborhood watch block who was willing to offer her time and resources to help these women at the church as well.

5. What level of street prostitution are they willing to tolerate?

The level of street prostitution is the girls walking around, however they want the drugs and strangers to stop coming into their neighborhoods. They perfer if both problems were to stop and go away, however they want all the drugs to get out of their communities and for the strangers to stop coming in and out.

1. Does street prostitution take only one form (e.g., female prostitutes and male clients), or are there several different forms (e.g., homosexual or transvestite prostitution)?

In this case, there seems to only be one form of street prostitution, female prostitutes and male clients. This is the most known type of prostitution as is the biggest form. However, I am sure there are several other different forms that may not be as big of prostitution.

2. What is known about the prostitutes (e.g., age, gender, race, criminal history, social service history, substance abuse history, residence)?

As far as age and race, the information is unclear from the interviews from the prostitutes. However, is it very obvious the gender of the prostitutes are all females. Most of these prostitutes have had prior encounters with the police and most of them do have a history of substance abuse. They also have a history of repeating prostitution after being arrested for it.

From the information I had gathered it seems not many prostitutes commit robbery or theft towards their clients.

4. Are street prostitutes the victims of crime?

Street prostitutes are the victims of many serious crimes, however they have admitted to having fear to report these crimes. They are victims of assault, sexual assault, abuse, and many more violent crimes. They fear reporting these crimes because many may not believe them or just book them in for prostitution.

5. How committed are prostitutes to prostitution?

I would say a good majority of the prostitutes are highly committed to prostitution. Police officers have reported booking and processing the same prostitute several times. After they are arrested, the next day they are back out in the streets again.

6. How committed are they to a particular location?

They are pretty committed to a particular location because they know who will let them conduct business in their buildings and where the "good" high-paying clients are. The prostitutes have admitted themselves they go to the same place because they know will let them conduct business and they have back-up plans as to where to go if police are patrolling.
