Scott H. Decker is professor emeritus of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Arizona State University.  Prior to working at ASU, he was Curators' Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Missouri-St. Louis where he received the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Research. He was the Hindelang Lecturer at the University at Albany in 2009. He is a fellow of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences and the American Society of Criminology. He received the 2011 Bruce Smith Award from the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences. He is the author of 17 books, including Life in the Gang; Burglars on the Job: Streetlife and Residential Burglary; Confronting Gangs; Lessons from the Inside: Drug Smugglers on Drug Smuggling; Policing Gangs and Youth Violence; Responding to Gangs; and European Street Gangs and Troublesome Youth GroupsHis main research interests are in the areas of gangs, juvenile justice, criminal justice policy, and the offender's perspective. Decker received a bachelor's degree in social justice from DePauw University, and a master's and doctorate in criminology from Florida State University.
